How true is it that I-94 Card Is Hot to fill out?

December 31, 2012 by Chiranth Nataraj

It is a wrong notion that the I-94 Card is hot to fill out. The process is simple if you follow the instructions and procedures very carefully. As a matter of fact, there are some laid down guidelines for filling out the CBP Form I-94 for non-immigrant visitors entering the United States with a visa. There are two sections to this form and the sections must be duly completed by you or the carrier representative upon getting to the United States. The bottom segment of the CBP Form I-94 is called the departure record and must be filled properly and returned to the officials of the US when leaving the United States.

Passport-4

Once you read instructions on the form carefully, filling out I-94 Card will not be hot for you. The details you will need to include in the Arrival Record of your Form I-94 include the following; your family name, first name, date of birth, your country of citizenship, sex (male or female), International Passport Number, airline and flight number (if applicable), your country of residence, the city from where you boarded the flight, The city where your visa was issued, date of issue to include the day/month/year, your address while you are in the United States including the city and state. All this information must be given as accurately as possible.

Also, you must also give information about your family name, first name, date of birth as well as your country of citizenship at the lower section of your Form I-94 Departure Record. Do not say because you have declared the information in the first section, it is no longer necessary again in this lower portion. Your application will be denied if you do so.

As soon as you have successfully completed the form, your Form I-94, Arrival and Departure records as well as your passport will then be stamped by a CBP officer. Furthermore, the CBP Declaration being used at sea and air ports of entry may equally be stamped by the officer of the CBP. After stamping, the arrival portion of the CBP Form I-94 will be retained by the CBP officer while the departure portion and your passport will be returned back to you.

You will be in possession of both the passport and the departure section of the CBP Form I-94 all the time until you leave the US. Filling out your form I-94 is just as easy as explained above and there is no truth in the statement that says “I-94 Card is hot to fill out”.

Life Insurance

Providing for your dependent relatives or those you will leave behind when you die is the greatest factor of having life insurance. Therefore, if you have a family that is dependent on your salary to pay some bills, life insurance is extremely imperative. No wonder the industry professionals recommended that a life insurance policy should cover ten times your yearly income so that the total amount will be sufficient enough to cover funeral expenses, existing expenses and also provide your family a financial cushion that will assist them after your demise.

However, remember that whenever you are estimating the amount of life insurance coverage you require, make sure you factor into it, not only the funeral expenses but also living expenses and mortgage payments like credit cards, loans and taxes as well as future college and child care costs.

Whole Life and Term Life policies are the basic types of life insurance available. With the whole life policy, you will pay according to your agreement with the insurance company until you die while Term Life policy is meant for a period of time you have already agreed with your service provider. When you are planning your life insurance needs, seek the advice of a financial expert.
Since there are significant differences between whole life and term life policies, it is very important for you to put into consideration your age, number of dependent children or relatives, occupation and other factors when deciding between these two policies in order to ensure that you have the necessary coverage to protect your family upon your death.

The Effects of Flying on Sleep

December 28, 2012 by Chiranth Nataraj

Flying is well known to disrupt your sleeping patterns and make it ten times harder to get a good night’s sleep when you reach your destination or return home from your vacation. Flying, especially long distances, takes a toll on your sleep and your body. But the more you know how flying affects your body, the better you can cope and the higher your chances of getting a good night’s sleep.

baggage

Inside your brain you have something called a circadian clock – your body clock. This body clock regulates all kinds of aspects of your life. One of the most important functions is the regulation of your sleeping and waking cycle. Your body clock also regulates your mood, even your digestion. This clock takes strong clues from light in order to function well.

When you fly across time zones your exposure to light is quickly adjusted – more quickly than it would be when you stay at home. Your internal clock is set out of time – you enter new time zones faster than your body clock can regulate itself. This results in jet lag. Your body eventually adjusts to time differences but it may take a while. It is better to fly from east to west because the internal clock is better able to operate in this manner.

When you travel you may also suffer from tiredness, which is not exactly jet lag but is similar. The stress of flying and your inability to fall asleep on the plane cause you to feel more tired than usual. You may also be dehydrated and your body may be aching and stiff. When you are tired you will find it harder to make decisions and cope with stress. When you arrive at your destination try to stick to your destination’s time – sleep when everyone else sleeps and wake when they do. This will make it easier to adjust to jet lag. You may also find that exercise and napping help with feelings of tiredness.

What is a Visa?

December 27, 2012 by Chiranth Nataraj

Many people have questions about the process of living and working in the United States as a foreign citizen. A lot of these questions are about the US visa. What exactly is a US visa? Who needs a visa and how can you get one? While the process of US immigration is complex and multifaceted, here are a few simple answers to the question, “what is a visa”?

Visa Application

Anyone who lives in a foreign country and is not a citizen of the United States must obtain a US visa in order to visit, live or work in the United States. A visa is an official document. It is added to the traveler’s passport – your passport is the document issued to you by the country where you have citizenship. It allows you to travel away from your own country and to return. Who needs a visa? Not every foreign citizen needs a visa – there are exceptions for people who are eligible to travel under the visa-free scheme. But most non-US citizens need a visa to gain entry to the US.

When you have a visa in your passport you are eligible to travel to the United States and to arrive at a registered port, airport or land border crossing. Having a visa does not automatically allow you entry to the US. A visa allows you to ask permission from border officials to enter the country. The officials will look at the visa and determine if you are eligible for entry based on certain criteria.

There are two main types of US visa. The first is a non-immigrant visa. This visa is designed for people who are traveling to the United States on a temporary basis and are not planning to reside in the country. An immigrant visa is a visa for people who are planning to live permanently in the United States.

If you are a vegan food lover or vegetarian and you get to this restaurant in US, you will get the satisfaction you desire in a vegetarian diet. Horizons Philadelphia is one of the few restaurants in Philly that will satisfy you as a vegan. They serve guilt-free and healthy dishes made of veggies and soy at Horizons.

This restaurant that located in New York City provides some raw seitan, original Tofu and vegetable creations, all kosher. They also have the stellar Autumn Sweet Potato Rolls that have raw stripes of the orange root being wrapped around carrots, tangy strips coconut and peppers that will leave your taste-buds reeling. Can I Bring International Foods and Spices to the USA?

December 20, 2012 by Chiranth Nataraj

If you are traveling to the USA from abroad in order to start a new life in the States, you may think of bringing some home comforts with you in the form of food and drink. It can be hard to live without certain treats and sweets, but does that mean you can bring them with you to the US? Here we discuss the foods and spices you can bring with you on the plane to America, and those that are best left at home.

The following types of foods are generally permitted to enter the United States: Prepared sauces like ketchup, mustard and mayonnaise that don’t contain meat; olive oils and other vegetable oils; cereals and processed crackers, cookies and bread; chocolate and candies; certain cheeses and dairy products; canned goods (not containing meat); dried or frozen fish or seafood; dried fruit; milk for babies; juices; tea and coffee (but not coca tea); honey; noodles and rice; flour; mushrooms; nuts; and baked goods.

Most dried spices are admissible apart from citrus leaves including lemongrass and lime leaves, plus vegetable and fruit seeds. You can bring in certain fresh fruit and vegetables depending on the type of food and the country you are coming from.

You cannot bring in any meat, egg, and poultry products or any product made from these ingredients. And raw egg as an ingredient is generally not permitted. If you are unsure whether you can bring a food item into the country you can check online, and if in doubt – leave it at home. At best you get your item confiscated, at worst you could get a fine. Explore the new foods you will experience when you are abroad and try not to rely on the ones you are used to – many countries offer special food guides for your diet or food preference abroad.

The Truth about Form I-94

December 19, 2012 by Chiranth Nataraj

The form I-94 or I-94 card is also known as Arrival Departure Record which contains details concerning the date of your entry into the United States, when the authorized stay will lapse as well as class of admission. The truth about the I-94 card is that, it must be completed at the time of entry into the United States any time you enter the US as a non-immigrant. Therefore, the transport line will give you Form I-94 if you are traveling to US by sea. On the other hand, if you are traveling to USA by land, the Customs and Border Protection – CBP personnel will offer you a blank I-94 Card. If your own I-94 Card is misplaced or stolen, you must file what is called Replace Arrival Departure Record for replacement.

There are two segments or sections to I-94 Form – the departure and arrival records. You must complete both sections as a non-immigrant. The upper section is the arrival record while the lower or bottom part of I-94 Card is the departure record.

Information contained in the upper part of I-94 Card include, admission number, name, date of birth, country of citizenship, gender, passport number, flight or airline number, your country of residence, the city where you boarded the flight, the city where your visa was issued, the date that your visa was issued, your address during your stay in the US including the street, number as well as the city and state.

On the other hand, the bottom part of Form I-94 contains details about your departure number, name, date of birth and country of citizenship.

If you are a non-immigrant, you must complete Form I-94 and submit same to the CBP personnel together with your passport. At a stage of the processing, the CBP officer might ask questions concerning the reason for your visit, duration of the visit and where you will live in US. If all information you provided in your I-94 Card is legitimate and accurate, the Form I-94 Arrival Departure Record and the passport will be stamped by the CBP and they will maintain the arrival section for record purposes and return back to you both your passport and your departure record. As a result, you now get an authorization to enter the USA in a specific non-immigrant status for an authorized stay.

You can apply for a change of status or extension of stay by filling Form I-539 when you are in the United States of America. You will then be issued an Approval Notice with a fresh I-94 Card upon the approval of your change of status or extension by the USCIS. When you are living the US, you must hand over the departure record to the US CBP officials. On the other hand, if you are living the US by air, hand over your Form I-94 in the airline before your departure.

If you are traveling by sea from USA, Form I-94 Departure Record should be given to the shipping line. If you should leave US by land on the other hand, your I-94 Departure Record should be handed over to the CBP personnel.

On a final note, make sure that you preserve your passport and departure record carefully during your stay in the USA. However, if your Form I-94 is stolen or lost, you must request for replacement from the USCIS by completing the Form I-102

Long-Term Disability Insurance – A Coverage We Think We Will Never Need

December 18, 2012 by Chiranth Nataraj

Due to the fact that none of us assume we will become disabled, long-term disability insurance is a type of coverage most of us think we will never need. Still, according to the Social Security Administration, three in 10 workers entering the workforce will become disabled and will be unable to work before they attain their retirement age. Presently, 12 percent of the population is disabled in one way or the other while 50 percent of those workers are still in their working years.

Before you conclude that you don’t need long-term disability insurance, consider what will happen if you are injured and unable to go to work for just three months. Ask yourself if there will be sufficient fund in your account to cover all your living expenses during this period. Furthermore, in a situation where you suffer a major medical condition like cancer and you are unable to work for a whole year, consider what you might face.

As part of their benefits package, a lot of employers provide both long-term and short-term disability coverage. In other words, this is the best alternative for getting affordable long-term disability insurance coverage. It is advisable that you seek out a private insurer if your employer does not offer disability coverage as part of their offer. AARP offers a very good disability insurance calculator to assist you if you are not sure of the amount of coverage you require.

Come what may, the optimal policy is the policy that guarantees income replacement. Replacement of 50 to 60 percent of your income is more usual term available. On the other hand, many factors such as age, health and lifestyle are associated with the cost of disability insurance. The average rate in 2009 for employer or group coverage was around $238 in a year or $5 per week, which is a minute amount you will pay if you are faced with a disturbing injury or illness. When you can no longer work, disability insurance will guarantee that you will receive some income.

Because no one of us ever believes that we can be disabled, we often ignore long-term disability insurance. However, the truth remains that any eventuality that can cause disability can occur any time. For this reason, it is important that you are covered with disability insurance so that when the events that will make you not to be able to work again eventually occur, you will be compensated.
