Important Documents for Overseas Travel

May 29, 2013 by Chiranth Nataraj

International travelling is a thrilling exploration, but keeping all your documents prepared prior to your journey is an absolute necessity. International travel systems can be stringent and intolerant at times, particularly if you don’t have all the necessary documents in advance. Be equipped with all the below mentioned documents before you leave your home country so you can enjoy your trip abroad to the fullest.

Passport
Passport
A passport is must for all overseas travel, whether entering into the foreign country or re- entering into the US. Therefore, ensure that your passport must be valid for no less than six months after the date you plan to go in a foreign country. Also, make a couple of copies of your passport to keep in your luggage, so as to help you if in case the original is lost or stolen.

Visa
A travel visa is also an important as well as must document required by most countries worldwide, however, not all countries require them in advance. Visit the Department of State website for the latest country-specific details concerning visas.

Flight and Hotel Information
Always carry along a copy of your flight itinerary and any other details with regard to your stay like hotels, during your trip abroad. As a rule, most of the countries will need a proof of an onward ticket. Also, the address where you plan to stay is required for the entry card when you initially arrive in a foreign country.

Driver’s License
You must bring your driver’s license if you plan to drive a vehicle or rent a car while overseas. Several countries call for an international driver’s license, but other countries grant a specific driving period with verification of a driver’s license from your home country. Check with the rental car agency of your destination country for precise rules and regulations guidelines regarding international driving.

Insurance
Do carry proof of your international medical and/or travel insurance if you have procured it prior to your voyage. Though these are not must documents for a trip abroad, but having them with you is a sensible thought depending on the nature of the trip you’re scheduling to take. Keep a copy of insurance details at a different location in your luggage in case your original copy is stolen or lost.

To avoid confusion about flight timings, call up the airlines office to confirm. Make sure you get the details about your luggage limit for both check in and cabin luggage from your airline. On the day of your departure, reach the airport at least 3 hours before your flight, this way you can make your seat preference. It is Dangerous to Ignore Expat Health Insurance

May 20, 2013 by Chiranth Nataraj

It is quite unfortunate that a lot of expatriates have a propensity to ignore or simply don’t realize the financial repercussions of their failure to obtain adequate health insurance cover when they are traveling abroad. Let us just assume that an expatriate was unlucky enough to engage in an auto crash and was unconscious without any expat health insurance cover in place before the accident. The fact is that the ambulance crew will attend to him and then take him to the hospital quite alright
family1

However, the unfortunate thing is that, instead of them making you better they will be looking to see the way they will be repaid while failure to make appropriate guarantees available can delay medical assistance seriously and in some scenarios, this can prove critical. How do the fees mount up, assuming you can provide a guarantee of payment?

As a matter of fact, the whole thing is a cost. The case is similar to that of the mini bar at the hotel which never ends. There are Consultancy fees, Hospital accommodation, Ambulances, Surgeons fees, X-Rays, Anesthetists fees, Theater costs, Pharmacy costs and Physiotherapy among others. The cost of treatment can cause serious damage to what ought to be a healthy bank balance if you don’t have adequate expatriate health insurance cover.

The truth is that we suffer ill health or injury all the time and it will be imprudent for us to rely solely on good fortune and even risky when the costs involved is considered. Using a car accident is a very good instance when compared to a person that falls seriously ill and that person is in need of regular medical care. The condition get worse fast and becomes far more severe in relation to costs. However, with expat health insurance in place, you are guarantee secured health because you will be treated at affordable cost.

However, the cost of a particular scheme may seem expensive initially; it will be an inexpensive necessity if it is balanced against the peace of mind from potential costs of funding medical care. Remember! It is dangerous to ignore expat health insurance. This is just a warning!

May 14, 2013 by Chiranth Nataraj

For Indians settled in the US, community centers are a great way to keep in touch with their culture, preserve their traditions and celebrate their festivals. Parents visiting their children in the US find it a great way to spend time where they can relax and meet others, enjoy a meal or browse through Indian papers and magazines at the library. One can play games such as chess, caroms or cards or make use of the fitness center offering yoga and fitness classes.

Community centers are also the preferred venues for concerts and weddings, a great way to meet other Indian families, especially for parents and seniors who feel isolated in a foreign country. With children leading busy lives, seniors often get depressed not knowing what to do with their time; a community center gives them a chance to spend their time doing the things they like besides providing them company of like minded people. Indian community centers come up with programs relevant to the younger Indian generation too, with recreational programs that promote Indian culture and values. Children and young adults enjoy participating in cultural programs at the community centers. There are hundreds of Indian community centers all over America that help in creating a place for family and friends to come together. They even offer services in areas such as health, legal aid and senior support and promote awareness and understanding of Indian culture. Some of the community centers have places of worship to provide a uniting spiritual experience for the Indian community.

A great thing with Indian community centers is that they focus on uniting a diverse Indian community and steer clear of dividing issues like religion, caste and politics. They make a huge difference in peoples’ lives by giving them a friendly environment to share their ideas and interests and take pride in offering them a home away from home.
