It is Dangerous to Ignore Expat Health Insurance

May 20, 2013 by Chiranth Nataraj

It is quite unfortunate that a lot of expatriates have a propensity to ignore or simply don’t realize the financial repercussions of their failure to obtain adequate health insurance cover when they are traveling abroad. Let us just assume that an expatriate was unlucky enough to engage in an auto crash and was unconscious without any expat health insurance cover in place before the accident. The fact is that the ambulance crew will attend to him and then take him to the hospital quite alright

However, the unfortunate thing is that, instead of them making you better they will be looking to see the way they will be repaid while failure to make appropriate guarantees available can delay medical assistance seriously and in some scenarios, this can prove critical. How do the fees mount up, assuming you can provide a guarantee of payment?

As a matter of fact, the whole thing is a cost. The case is similar to that of the mini bar at the hotel which never ends. There are Consultancy fees, Hospital accommodation, Ambulances, Surgeons fees, X-Rays, Anesthetists fees, Theater costs, Pharmacy costs and Physiotherapy among others. The cost of treatment can cause serious damage to what ought to be a healthy bank balance if you don’t have adequate expatriate health insurance cover.

The truth is that we suffer ill health or injury all the time and it will be imprudent for us to rely solely on good fortune and even risky when the costs involved is considered. Using a car accident is a very good instance when compared to a person that falls seriously ill and that person is in need of regular medical care. The condition get worse fast and becomes far more severe in relation to costs. However, with expat health insurance in place, you are guarantee secured health because you will be treated at affordable cost.

However, the cost of a particular scheme may seem expensive initially; it will be an inexpensive necessity if it is balanced against the peace of mind from potential costs of funding medical care. Remember! It is dangerous to ignore expat health insurance. This is just a warning!
